What do the mmHg numbers mean?

mmHg stands for millimetres of mercury, the unit used for blood pressure. On a stocking it shows how firmly the fabric squeezes your leg. JOBST stockings are graduated, snuggest at the ankle and gentler higher up. In general, 8-15 mmHg is light, 15-20 mmHg is mild, 20-30 mmHg is moderate and 30-40 mmHg is firm. Levels from 20-30 mmHg up are medical compression, so choose them with your doctor or nurse. See JOBST mmHg levels and sizing.

How do I choose a style and size?

Pick the style first: knee-high, thigh-high, waist-high or pantyhose, and arm sleeves for the arm. Then choose closed or open toe. Sizing usually comes from a tape measure, not your shoe size, so measure your ankle and calf, and your thigh for thigh-highs, then match the maker's size chart. Wider calves may need a full-calf version. A unisex athletic knee-high is a simple starting point if you want a sock that feels like an everyday sock.

Questions shoppers ask

What compression level is common for travel?

The 15-20 mmHg level is a common everyday choice for long days and flights. If you have had a blood clot or have heart, kidney or circulation problems, ask your doctor what to wear before travelling.

How do I measure for compression socks?

Use a soft tape measure and the maker's chart. Measure your ankle and calf, plus your thigh for thigh-highs. Sizes come from measurements, not shoe size. If you are between sizes, call us at 365-797-2167.

Are diabetic socks the same as compression socks?

Not always. Some diabetic socks, such as JOBST Sensifoot, are light compression with a padded foot. Ask your doctor or foot-care nurse before wearing compression if you have diabetes, especially with reduced feeling in your feet.

Can I return compression socks that do not fit?

Opened healthcare and personal-care items cannot be returned, so measure before you order and check the size chart on the listing. Call us at 365-797-2167 if you are unsure which size to choose.
